Federal Reserve Bank – “Waterfall”

2003 – 2005: San Francisco, CA

9ft x 4ft Custom Touchscreen Interactive

Designer: West Office Exhibition Design

This is the “waterfall” in the lobby of the Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco. Although it is only a single image, it shows how readable you can make an image in very bright light. This display faces a full story, full width glass facade of an office building and the interior is all white marble. There is lots of light.

To overcome the lighting challenges, we are using 10K lumen projectors and a very fancy graphite screen which transmits about 80% of the light but reflects less than 1% of the incident light.

This is also an example of our software and interface skills. The display is actually a touchscreen, custom made by us. It is 8 ft tall and 6 ft wide. There is a “rain” of numbers scrolling down the screen. When a visitor touches the screen, a bubble starts to grow where you touch. The raining numbers flow around the bubble and a factoid about the Federal Reserve appears inside.
