California Science Center – “Central Organizer”
2009: Los Angeles, CA
A video, sound and recording system for a 3-storied, glass-enclosed space
Designer: BBI Engineering
This is the newest party spot at the California Science Center in Los Angeles.
Sound in the Central Organizer is heard from six column loudspeakers mounted on the four vertical trusses in front of the glass wall. The Innovox speakers (LA 1450 and LA1400) were selected because they provide excellent vertical pattern control with minimal visual impact. They do not produce useful bass response below 120 Hz, which will be more than adequate for speech reinforcement and light music playback. They are supplemented by portable subwoofers and monitor speakers that connect to a stage box.
Speakers mounted to the entrances to the Kelp Forest and the East Foyer provide transition as you move out of the Central Organizer. The signal to these loudspeakers is delayed in order to synchronize with sound coming from the Central Organizer, allowing people seated in the adjacent areas to hear events originating from the Central Organizer. The volume in each of the adjacent areas is independently adjustable via touch panels mounted to the wall and in the rack.
