Glenbow Museum – “Mavericks”
Calgary Alberta
Permanent Exhibit
Designers: One-Bad-Ant / Museum staff
Mavericks is the new permanent exhibit based on Aritha Van Herk’s book “Mavericks: An Incorrigible History of Alberta.” The exhibit covers the legendary tales and colorful characters of Alberta.
In a shadow theater inside a tent, a Mountie reads a letter out loud describing his life policing the early days of Alberta.
A view down the central promenade shows the giant Googie/Populux style neon sign for Telstar Drugs. The sign was salvaged from an Alberta drug store and restored to all its rotating and blinking glory.
Other exhibits include:
Interactive maps
Environmental audio spaces
Multi-screen video presentations
Object theaters
Audio jukeboxes
Large scale introductory movie.
