Who hasn’t seen this elephant?
This African bull elephant has been standing in the rotunda of the Smithsonian Natural History Museum for decades watching countless visitors stream by.
In the past, he stood on a plain wooden base. Now he stands on a more realistic setting complete with natural sounds from his native habitat.
Speakers hidden in the rocks and foliage are triggered as visitors walk by. Sometimes the speaker starts playing the sound of wind, sometimes the call of an unseen animal, sometimes silence….
…… and sometimes a loud hiss!
